Okie Hi,

Okie

Hi. My name is Okie!

Hi. My name is Okie. I am a terrier mixed puppy approx 6 months old. As you can see I am a smaller boy weighing approx 10 – 12 lbs. I was brought to the sanctuary by two ladies named Sandee and Stephanie. They came into a place called Animal control and saw me in a small empty cage where I was very sad and lonely.

One of the ladies, Sandee, took me home with her and she noticed that I was going potty an awful lot. I didn’t quite understand what she meant when she said that as I was just doing what I had always done. She called her Vet and explained to him that I was drinking what she thought was an awful lot of water and having a need to urinate more frequently then she thought was normal. I was then taken to the Vet’s office where I had to stay for a few days to have some tests done. I was afraid that Sandee was not going to come back for me and I was sad again because I really liked it at her house where I had a big, big back yard to play in and other dogs my size to rough house with and I was so happy to see her when she came to get me.

I am told that I have a very rare condition called Diabetes insipidus which is a disorder of water balance. I am unable to concentrate urine, so the urine volume is very high and the urine is dilute. "Insipid" means tasteless -- referring to the dilute urine. This disease is rare in both dogs and cats. The condition is usually permanent, and the prognosis is good. Without treatment, dehydration leads to stupor, coma, and death. This is a completely different disease from Diabetes Mellitus (DM), a disorder of sugar metabolism involving the hormone insulin.

I am on medication now to help control my condition which makes Sandee very happy. I will have to be on medication for the rest of my life but I am told that I can live a long long time without complications.

I am a very good boy, I love to play outside and like to carry my toys around and throw them up in the air and catch them. I like playing with Zoey who is Sandee’s dog and I am used to her cats and all the cats at the Sanctuary. I love going for car rides and like going for long walks. I am crated at night and sometimes for small periods during the day which I really don’t mind.

I would really love a family to call my own who will love me just as I am. I have so much to offer and so much love to give. I am a happy little boy and would love to spend my days making my family happy. The Sanctuary is willing to pay for half of my monthly medication which means by new family would just have to pay $17 a month. I think I am worth $17 a month and really, really hope that someone will overlook this very small amount of money and come into the sanctuary and take me to my new and “forever” home. I was also told that my adoption fee of $200 would go towards my medication so I think that is a wonderful idea and hopefully I will have a new home soon. I am told I have had all of my vaccines even a rabies and that I an neutered so I am ready to be adopted. Won’t someone please come in and give me a new home and lots and lots of love and attention.
